Great debut from a band that would get even better!

"Strangeways may be better known for their later albums with Terry Brock on vocals, but their 1986 self-titled debut is still well worth checking out.
It's hard to be objective about this album knowing just how much better the band became with Brock on board, but this is really a top quality AOR album on its own merits. The band had a real knack for writing great keyboard-friendly Journey/Foreigner/Loverboy/Toto-style AOR songs. They're upbeat, catchy, and rock pretty hard. Vocalist Tony Liddell gives a solid performance as well. He may not be at Terry Brock's level of quality, but he's no slacker either.
If you're a fan of that larger than life 80's AOR/arena rock sound, this album should put a big smile on your face. And if you were a Strangeways fan back in the day, you should love the reissued version of their debut album.
NOTE: Majestic Rock (fast becoming my new favorite reissue label) reissued Native Sons in 2006. The album features much-needed digital remastering and the bonus track Streets of Fire. Amazon lists a version with additional bonus tracks, but I have the 2006 Majestic Release and it only has 11 tracks. If there's a better version available I've yet to see it.
