CD Reviews

Nice trip through the progression of 60's music styles.....

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The changes that occured in rock music styles between 1964 and 1968 are pretty neatly displayed in this set. The earlier tunes are basically faithfully played and highly charged reworkings of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley standards, but things start to turn the corner with Hickory Stix' "Hello My Darling." The sultry sax alone would definitely warrant this song's inclusion in most lounge comps. How many tunes of this era can say that? Miller's decidely Trogg-like "Baby I Got News For You" is thoroughly captivating; I can't let go of the "repeat" button. The tunes that follow generally exhibit the "psych" stylings of the latter-60's era, Hendrix guitar licks, Seeds soundalikes, and so forth. You KNOW that anything titled "Concerto of Thoughts" has to come from this period. Grab this, it is getting hard to find."
