Synopsis

Product Description
This superb live broadcast, aired by KSAN FM (aka Jive 95) on June 1st 1973 from the Record Plant studios in Sausalito, captures The Steve Miller Band in fantastic form at the beginning of their most successful period. Soon after this broadcast, their irresistibly infectious single 'The Joker' became a massive hit -- reaching No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and driving the album of the same name to platinum status. Formed in 1966, The Steve Miller Band were soon signed by Capitol Records and released their first album Children of the Future the following year, quickly followed by their second LP Sailor a mere month later. Amongst the highlights are Miller's own 'Living in The USA' and a cover of Johnny 'Guitar' Watson's 'Gangster of Love' -- live versions of both are included here. This performance also draws heavily on the 1969 album, Brave New World ('My Dark Hour', 'Space Cowboy', 'Kow Kow' and 'Seasons'), whilst third album Number 5, released in November 1970, is represented by 'Jackson-Kent Blue's' and 'Going To The Country'. It was with 1973's The Joker however that The Steve Miller Band were propelled into the big time on a truly international scale, with the aforementioned title track, as well as 'Mary Lou' and 'Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma' all played at this event. 'The Joker' single hit the No.1 spot for a second time in 1990 -- this time on the UK chart -- when it was featured in a Levi's jeans advertising campaign. Featuring several more picks from across their catalogue this excellent live broadcast will appeal to fans both new and old as a fitting tribute and a delightful representation of The Steve Miller Band in its finest form.
