The Condor is a record by steve lacy sextet recorded in 1985.
The sextet consists of Steve Lacy on soprano sax, Steve Potts on soprano and alto sax, Irene Aebi (Lacy's wife) on violin and voice, Bobby Few on piano, Jean Jacques Avenel on bass, and Oliver Johnson on drums. This is the disc I adore. Jean Jacques Avenel is tremendous, astonishing, amazing, he never seemed so powerful on his bass. What did he eat on that day ? Impressive. All the artists form one voice. The emphasis on poetry is evident (listen to Irene Aebi singing poems on all the tracks) : each composition is inspired by a particular poem. Lacy loved to incorporate poetry at the end of his life.
Listen to Volando Via how the guys can swing irresistably, brought along by great pianist Bobby Few, unrightly unknown."
