Probably Steve's Best!

"This album is definitely the ultimate display of Steve Green's operatic level vocal prowess. It is traditional Christian music but with a modern flair. It would probably not be everyone's favorite Christian album as it is not in the mainstream of pop/rock style contemporary Christian music that has grown in acceptance and popularity over the past 25+ years but I believe it is a monument and one of the best Christian albums ever recorded. With the possible exception of "The Mission" this is Steve's greatest disc.
Track one "Call To Worship/The Majesty And Glory..." begins with a sense of awe and mystery seeming to rise out of the mists of eternity gradually growing more powerful but remaining gentle setting an appropriately worshipful mood.
Track two is the title song "God And God Alone." While it is a gently operaticly flavored pop ballad beginning with only piano
accompaniment building to full orchestra it has the most pop touches of any song on the disc. It makes effective use of synthesizers and incorporates a subtle and gentle but definite rock rythym. It was the biggest hit on the album.
Track three "I will Lift Up" is a short, powerful, relatively
up-tempo operatic blast. Steve and orchestra going for broke for
just over two minutes. Particularly rythmic and effective use is made of the tympany.
Track four "Higher Ground" is a fun easy listening adult contemporary number from Steve's former Gaither vocal band mate
Jon Mohr. Sounding very light hearted, it contains the serious
message of providing an ark of safety for our families from the world's evils.
Track five "We Have God"s Glory" is a powerfully symphonic
reminder that today's Christians are the original apostles successors in testifying to the glory of Christ.
Track six "Let Us Praise The Almighty" is a simple praise song, musically in much the same vein as "Higher Ground."
Track seven "Household of Faith" is a beautiful duet with Steve and his wife about faith as the foundation for a home and a marriage. Musically it is somewhere between traditional Christian
style and east listening or adult cont.
Track eight "Only Jesus/Calary's Love" is really two songs in
one. The first having only piano accompanient reminds us that Jesus is the only way. The second is a powerfully orchestrated and operatic testament to the strength and endurance of the love
of Christ.
Track nine "Enter In" although musically similar to the track
eight is all the more powerful for the incorporation of light rock drums and synthesizers such as in "God And God Alone" but in a more subtle way than that title track due to its stronger classical influence. It is also my personal opinion that it is highly underrated and after said title track the real gem of this
collection; powerful music with a more powerful message about living for Christ by dying to the world.
Track ten is a short simple plea to accept Christ.
