CD ReviewsGod Bless Steve S. Schmucker | Houston, TX | 10/25/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Great CD with a lot of blues influences, including Taj Mahal. This guy knew how to bring it and it is a shame that he had to leave us so soon. Thanks for a great album Steve." Good jazzy blues sound Todd7 | Michigan | 02/07/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "Steve Gaines is one of my favorite guitarists of all time, behind such greats as Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Tony Iommi. This is a lot of praise for a man who was around for just 2 albums with Lynyrd Skynyrd (One More from the Road (live))and Street Survivors. We all know that he was tragically killed in the Skynyrd plane crash on October 20, 1977, along with his sister, Cassie, and Ronnie Van Zant. During his time in Skynyrd, he made an indelible impact, and was admired by band members and fans alike. Ronnie Van Zant was quoted as saying, "We will all be in his shadow someday." Of course, he was talking about his exceptional guitar playing. However, Ronnie had so much confidence in him, that he let him share in the vocals on some songs, and even let him sing his own song (Ain't No Good Life) on Street Survivors. His solo project, ONE IN THE SUN, is a different brand of music that highlights his versatility. It consists of mainly jazz fused with blues. I think that the album has an identity all its own, and standout tracks include On the Road, One in the Sun, Take My Time, and the cover of It's Alright. I've never been crazy about Steve's voice, but it still has a way of blending in nicely. I think that he oversings One in the Sun a bit, but this is minor. His great songwriting and guitar ability more than make up for the shaky vocals. Overall, it's a solid release, and is good traveling music. 8/10"
