Standards & Shorter
Gordon Danis | Eastchester, New York United States | 09/22/2007

"On the liner notes to the CD, drummer Steve Davis indicates that the music was to focus on silence, or "what is not played" as much as what is played. Hardly a new notion in jazz going all the way back to early Miles Davis, but a notion more often aspired to than reached.
But on a quirky rendition of Jerome Kerns' "Yesterdays," followed by a gorgeous cover of Wayne Shorter's "Infant Eyes," everything, including the silences, falls into place. A consistently wonderful, almost ambient jazz CD. This is "smooth jazz" for people with minds."

"The fidelity of this hybrid is terrific on a SACD player as well as on a redbook machine. As a rule of thumb more care is taken in recording hybrids vs standard CDs and it shows in this case. Looking for a fine relaxing CD to play after a hard day at work? The soft guitar, percussion, and shimmering cymbals of this very together jazz quartet sure works for me."
