KEITH SLACK seems to have found a vocal mixture that places him somewhere between DAVID COVERDALE and STEVE WALSH. "This album is definitely the No.1 rock album of 1999 as various polls such as melodicrock. com and Rock Report show. It is also my fourth greatest rock album outranked only by Journey's ESCAPE, Survivor's VITAL SIGNS, and Fair Warning's FOUR. With the exception of Find What We're Looking For which I feel is mediocre, all tracks are excellent. I think the reason why this album became successful comes from the encounter of a great songwriter(Mike Slamer) and a man of great voice(Keith Slack) two years ago. Similar miracle occurred when Neil Schon of Journey met Steve Perry or TURN AROUND, where Keith's vocal works at its best, SLAVES OF THE NEW WORLD, uptempo fun pop rock sounding a bit like Ghostbustors, ALL I BELIEVE IN, nice ballad, IN TOO DEEP, my No.1 favorite and great uptempo rocker which might have been unleased from 1982, SEVEN SEAS, WHERE ARE YOU NOW both fine pop rock tracks which might have become favorites of FM station in 1980s. If you like guitar-featured rock such as Night Ranger and Vital Signs era Survivor, this album is an absolute must."

"Mike Slamer is the consummate rock guitarist. If you think Eddy is the king of balls-to-the-walls riff-rock, then you will be surprised, as I was, that this guy out Eddy's Eddy!! Vinnie Moore, MacAlpine and Yngwie may have a lock as the pure virtuoso rock guitarists, but Slamer has the technique, sense of melody, and sheer power that any VanHalen or Stevie Ray fan will lap up with joy! The vocals, songs, production, and musicianship on this CD are top-shelf. If you didn't like VH III, this will make up for the slap in the yap!! My only disagreement with other reviewers is that "Found what We're Looking For" is one of my favorite tunes."
Underground melodic masterpiece!!

"This is an album that visitors to melodic rock web sites are very familiar with while the rest of the world has never heard of it. All I can say is that the rest of the world is missing out--bigtime!This album is an excellent melodic rock release. It is excellently produced, and each song has a notable hook, melody and chorus. Songs like the opener "Give It All To Me" and "Into Deep" are the best of the uptempo rockers (although all are great on this album). "Turn Around" is a very pretty power ballad, while "All I Believe In" is a bit more on the moody side--but with an amazing electic guitar solo in the middle. "Son Of A Loaded Gun" has a slow verse and uptempo chorus for the entire song. The title track is a real surprise--almost (not quite) a rap vocal in parts but for sure the heaviest song on the album, a killer track. "The Nightmare Begins" is another unique track--kind of dark and moody and overall pretty heavy. And for sure, "Find What We're Looking For" is an amazing melodic track that is a bit uptempo and very heartfelt--a perfect melodic sound. Possibly my favorite track on the album--although it is hard to choose. This album is surely among the best releases in melodic rock in the late '90s. I didn't hear the whole thing until I bought it earlier this year. For sure, I was missing out. Strongly recommended for all fans of melodic rock. If you like Hardline, Velocity, or heavier Survivor, chances are you will like this."
Knockout melodic rock album!

"While I don't quite agree with my friend Susumu-5's "top 4" ranking of this album, I have to admit that Steelhouse Lane's 1999 album Slaves of the New World is a pretty incredible melodic rock album. I already knew that Mike Slamer was a great guitarist and songwriter from his days in Streets, but pairing him with one-time MSG vocalist Keith Slack was a match made in AOR heaven.
Steelhouse Lane's sound takes the best elements of the classic AOR sound (think Journey, Kansas, Foreigner, Asia and of course Streets) and adds the heavier elements of early 90's acts (like Giant, Damn Yankees and Bad English). The result is a powerful, hook-heavy, hard hitting melodic rock sound that instantly takes you back to arena rock's glory days. Whether it's creating melodic hooks or powerful solos, Mike Slamer just blazes away on this album. And as good as Slamer's guitar work is; Keith Slack's vocals are just as impressive. I don't know where this guy has been hiding (or where he went from here), but his Steve Walsh-meets-Lou Gramm voice is absolutely perfect for this kind of music.
If you're any kind of melodic rock fan, Slaves of the New World is an absolute must-have album. It's just under an hour of near-perfect melodic rock that is not to be missed. I also highly recommend Mike Slamer's solo album Nowhere Land, which features former Strangeways vocalist Terry Brock. It's not quite as good as this, but it's pretty close
