Product DescriptionThis CD featuring the great Stan Kenton Orchestra takes us back to the early days of the band in 1944 and 1945 when the mighty Kenton sound was still being formulated. The recordings were made as part of the American Armed Forces Radio Service when discs were sent out to the serving military to boost moral and bring a slice of home to the boys serving over seas during and post WW2. This disc mainly features the vocals of June Christy but there is also an offering from Anita O'Day. A curious and notable inclusion to the lineup includes Harry 'The Hipster' Gibson, noted for his ebullient piano style. It is also worth mentioning that many of the big name instrumentalists who helped form the Kenton sound are also featured.
