CD ReviewsHigh flames Nicole Emery | Brussels Belgium | 11/24/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "Spiritual Beggars finally has the production they deserve, while I liked AD ASTRA, I found it very noisy and almost suffocating. On "ON FIRE", the sound is much clearer but still very heavy. The compositions are more mature, more open. The opening track-Street Fighting Saviours-is in the PURPLE mood, the second track-Young Man Old soul-sounds like a heavy SABBATH track, the whole album is filled with 70's sounds or riffs or keyboards-The return of the HAMMOND-but Spiritual Beggars has a sound of its own and its very own style.Check out the fabulous BLACK FEATHERS and its impressive middle part or the ambitious instrumental FEJEE MERMAID. I still think they haven't found the right singer yet or that maybe the ex-GRAND MAGUS singer should ajust his voice and contrast it more along with the music. A great album for Heavy metal fans,"stoner"freaks and 70's addicts." Great stoner rock Crowsdreamofdeth | Pennsylvania | 05/03/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Heavily influenced by 1970's bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, Spiritual Beggars rips up the scene with its powerful brand of hard rock with its grunge heavy riffs, psychedelic keyboards, and gruffy vocalist who's singing style ranges from sounding at times similar to David Coverdale and at others dangerously like Chris Cornell from Soundgarden (Fool's Gold). Although Spiritual Beggars wears their influences on their sleeves, they end up bringing an energy and musical talent to the genre that is difficult to replicate." A new path for Spiritual Beggars J. H. Infante | Guadalajara, Ja, Mex | 01/21/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "After stabilish a reputation into Stoner Rock genre with more than marvelous albums such as Ad Astra, Another Way to shine and Mantra III, Spiritual Beggars change the structure of the band once original bassist/vocalist Spice left, Mike Amott recruits a new bass player a keyboardist and a new lead vocal, Beggars now as a five members ensamble add new elements and influences to their music a variety of new rithms are included, Rainbow, Purple , Hendrix, Mountain, guitars have a groovy mood, keyboards sound as primitive as in early 70s, vocals have that charm of the vocalist of that age and the visual concept is faithfull to the philosophy of 70s hard rock.
On Fire marks the beggining of a new Spiritual Beggars, "Demons" the follow up to this album is far better and we can be sure future albums will be each better than the last one. HM" |
