Based on the acclaimed autobiographical novel by Mohamed Choukri, this enchanting film is filled with amazing photography by Algerian director Rachid Benhadj. It tells the story of Mohamed, an illiterate young boy who lives in extreme poverty and is harassed by a violent and oppressive father. At age 20, his discovery of literature triggers a desire to change in him; his willpower and determination will lead him to become a primary school teacher and then a writer.
