First time on CD for two classic soundtracks from Krzysztof (Christopher) Komeda: Le Depart and Bariera. Komeda, despite his death in 1969, still has a world-wide following amongst film music and Jazz aficionados. His work here is for two films by Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski. Le D?part was shot in Belgium and starred Jean-Pierre L?aud and tells the story of a young boy who dreams of entering a car race-but has no car! The soundtrack in many ways is an integral part of the film as it propels the action along. Coupled with this, is Komeda's assured score for an earlier Polish picture called Bariera, a darkly humorous and cynical view of Polish post-war life. The director's work is highly acclaimed, and the booklet for this release features an in-depth illustrated essay on his work. Text is in both English and Japanese.
