CD Reviews

Awesome!!!!

"i was skeptical about what i would hear on this cd because i'm not really into gospel quartets, but it is AWESOME. the music arrangements are stellar, contemporary and the songs are uplifting. the instrumental solos are killer, but what else do you expect from such obviously talented musicians? if you don't know about them you better ask somebody! get this cd!"
Refreshing twist on the quartet sound...

"Its a pity that there aren't more groups doing this style of Christian music at this level. The founders of this group are known as producers and backing musicians for some of the biggest names in Gospel music these days. But God has given them their own songs and music to share, and it is pretty impressive. This record retains the essence of the gritty, gutbucket gospel quartet sound, while adding a higher level of musicianship. 'I'd rather have Jesus' is a hot number blending hip-hop lyricism and rock music with a quartet sound to create a headbopping, handclapping praise party. A poigant message is delivered to us on 'What would you do', calling backsliders to repentance. Teddy Campbell and Cedric Haddon show they've done their homework, laying down vocals that evoke memories of the Mighty Clouds, the Blind Boys, and the Soul Stirrers. And while John 'Jubu' Smith lays down some seriously sweet guitar licks throughout, he stops along the way to go toe-to-toe vocally with guest artist Harvey Watkins Jr. of the legendary Canton Spirituals on 'My God will make a way'. Still, I feel the last few tunes were pretty much forgettable and seriously disrupted the flow of the record. Hence, the 3 star rating. But all in all, the tunes I liked made this a very enjoyable disc to listen to. They say that they seek to re-introduce this style of music to a younger audience. I'd say they are well on their way. Check it out for yourself."

"I went and got mine on a reccomendation from a friend. This is just what I needed to hear: Young men standing up with the Lord to move the hearts of listeners like me. It's very well put toghether, and many excellent Guitar, Drum, & Piano solo's fill the CD. I don't know where these dudes came from, but let's hope they stay around. This is a worthy buy."
