"I'm not going to go into great detail, here. But since amazon brought this title to my attention, I figured I'd throw in and do a review.
I like this disc a lot. Originally found in the used bin at a favorite record store (yes, I love amazon, but let's not let record stores die), I enjoyed it from the first. Wouldn't call it groundbreaking or anything like that, but just a very fine set from some very good players. Matthew Gee is one of those under-recognized, under-recorded people you hear about sometimes. I wouldn't mind hearing much more from him after getting to know this set; I always liked a good 'bone player anyway, and he definitely qualifies. I've also always enjoyed Johnny Griffin's better sessions. The extra treat here is the great Hank Jones, on some piano but mostly organ! I've never been a big fan of B-3 jazz, but Jones makes it very tasty. Don't forget Art Taylor, either, or Patato Valdez on bongos and congas. If all that sounds good to you on paper, it'll sound good in your machine for sure.
As to the title of the review, my old used copy got left in a rental car; I had to have a replacement, so I got one -- here, I believe. Grab a bargain and get some tunes you'll enjoy over and over again."
