CD Reviews

These Quadromania sets are verrrry worthy!!
Emmett Miller | AUSTIN, TX USA | 04/11/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I've purchased 4 items from this series (Milt Jackson, Sonny Rollins, Art Tatum and Bud Powell), and I must admit first off, the sound quality is impeccable with the HDCD high-end type remastering (96/24) that blew me away! The colorful holograms, and smartly packaged styling are another great eye-catcher. Dont look for any booklets or photos within these sets, they're just original classics (masters?) from the heydays of jazz and beebop! Less than $10 for a package of nearly 80 classics on some of these sessions, impeccably remastered, you cant go wrong! NOTE: if you search Amazon for the word QUADROMANIA, you'll see a motherlod of fine jazz and classic boxed sets cheaply priced, and worthy of every cent! Gimme more!!"
Tremendous bargain!

"this 4 cd set is a must for fans of sonny rollins or lovers of 1950s jazz in general. it's an all star line up on every track; miles, monk, bird (2 tracks) percy heath, roy haynes, art blakey, art farmer, kenny dorham, horace silver etc. the first track was recorded 1/17/51, the last track 10/25/54. the sound is excellent. sonny rollins (of course) is a virtuoso of the highest order and these are some of his best very early recordings. 3 hours worth for a very modest price. too put it mildly, you can't go wrong."
Over 3 Hours of Early 1950's Small Group Jazz

"There are 38 tunes on 4 CD's in this well done re-mastering of entirely early 1950's recordings featuring tenor legend Sonny Rollins. 15 of the 38 cuts are from Miles Davis led groups, so if you have the Miles Davis set - you might want to consider the potential duplication.

Sonny is in good form at this time - Miles is carrying the big monkey on his back however and his tone is sometimes thin, while some notes get splattered on attack. But hey, it's still Miles! And I love it! Lot of bang for the buck here: You also get some early Thelonious Monk Quartet tunes. You'll also hear some Art Farmer and Kenny Dorham trumpet work, along with some Kenny Drew, John Lewis and Horace Silver piano. Tough to go wrong with this collection."
