CD Reviews

Love it!
The time is now | New York | 12/31/2007

"Uppon listening to this record for the fisrt time I realized I was listening to one of those rare talents who are able to leave a mark for years to come. It takes a rare combination of vision, boldness, and a immense palette of skills to write such music: deep knowledge of jazz, gwoka rhythms, Bazilian music, soul. It also takes an equal degree of achievement both as a player and a composer... Beyond all technical considerations, this record has the ability to make me travel far and surprise me with each tune.

I read that it took 16 or more years in the making. I wonder if Jacques Schwarz-Bart will be able to maintain this level of creativity in his future work. But for the moment he has brought us a special contribution to modern music..."
Original expression, will stand the test of time.

"I enjoyed this CD thoroughly. Jacques Schwarz-Bart is a strong musician and composer. The compositions are truly inspiring. The harmony and melodies original. I wasn't familiar with gwoka before this cd and this is a great introduction to the native rhythms of Guadeloupe. The songs have infectious melodies that will engage your imagination throughout the day. This cd will stand the test of time. It shows a broad range of musical depth from uptempo, deep grooves or intimate ballads. The music draws from the beautiful traditions of Gwoka , jazz, brazilian and soul music to create a very individual and modern sound."
A rare gem
All for Jazz | Philadelphia | 12/31/2007

"Not since Wayne Shorter "Native Dancer" had I heard such an original work blending jazz and music from the African dispora.

The artist uses his experience alongside Roy Hargrove, D'angelo, Eryka Badu, Danilo Perez Meshell N'degeocello, to come forth with his own unique flavor.

All the tunes are rooted in Rhythms from his native island of Guadeloupe. The artist keeps a steady overall conception of ancestral rythms, modern harmony and stellar improvisations, while displaying contrasted facets of his profuse imagination.

After 6 months of having it, I still return to it with the same enthusiasm."
