"On Kold, Solstafir create a sound of anger, sadness and melancholy. Which, for me, correlates into an almost catatonic state of listening. Solstafir are from Iceland and in listening to Kold, I'm transported, in my mind, to complete solitude. The music is a vast, barren Winter tundra. The guitars slice, as rays of light through gray clouds. The voice seems distant, yet somehow close. The dirty bass, along with, pounding tribal drumming completes the foundation. Solstafir's earlier work is described as black metal. While that may be true, Kold is sufficiently removed from that style of metal on this release. I hear post/rock and post/metal, and maybe a touch of doom. Something about this music just crushes me, and that's good for me. I hear something new with each listen. If you want to go to Iceland(in your mind) this is your soundtrack. Highly recommended."
