(5 out of 5 stars)
"Folks that are looking at purchasing this import version instead of the less expensive domestic version and wondering is it worth it? Yes it is. I have both and the sound is superior on this one not only that but the packaging is worth it too. I am sure you know that this was the begining of something (fusion?) perhaps but not necessarily. Somehow the Soft Machine survived psych and went forward. I first purchased this album when I was 17 because I read an review in Rolling Stone record guide. So I set out and purchased it. The reviewer gave it five stars I believe, at the time I thought what is this? Well that was almost 25 years ago and I still play this album. How many of you can say that about a piece of music that you own? It does not have the riff or solo of something like Mahavishnu or RTF but don't forget this was 1970 and that stuff had not even been thought about yet? Even Miles Davis and Bands like the Free Spirits didn't even know if what they were doing was even music? BTW if you do enjoy this album it would be well worth your while to pick up Backwards too."
