I'll tell you why: Soft Machine isn't music, it's a state of mind. If you have any attention deficits, skip this CD, because at times it is very subtle. All musicians are deep and into the abstract side of music, similar to Escher for your ears (and so, mind). I always wished I'd had the chance to see SM live, but if you turn up the volume and push all distracts out of the room, you'll experience a live SM concert from start to the rocking finale. Yes, I said it :Rocking. The-most-intricate,-intraverted,-but-still-full-of-guitar-effects-and-unexpected-runs-on-sax-and-bass-I-have-been-missing-for-so-long rock ending. R.I.P. Elton Dean.
