CD ReviewsForgotten 80's AOR album Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 05/30/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "Similar to bands like Lionheart and Tobruk, Snowblind was a UK-based AOR/melodic rock act formed in the mid 1980's, just as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement was dying out. The band was tangentially related to that scene in that bassist Geoff Gillespie was once a member Sabre. The band also featured guitarist Andy Simmons.
Snowblind released just one album - 1985's self-titled debut - an album that had that radio-ready, keyboard driven AOR sound that was so prevalent at the time. I love this kind of music, with its catchy melodies, smooth vocals, and sing-along choruses, so this album suits me perfectly. If you're a fan of bands like Touch, Tobruk, Rail, April Wine, and Journey, you'd do well to give Snowblind a try. NOTE: Majestic Records reissued the Snowblind debut in 2004. The reissue - which I believe is the first time the album was release on CD - features digitally remastered sound and four bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are all BBC session performances of tracks on the album. It also features detailed liner notes. It's a high quality reissue, facilitated no doubt by the fact that Majestic Records is owned by Geoff Gillespie. " |
