New Band, New Sound

"This is not the old Sneaker Pimps. The former band actually was morphing into one of the greatest art bands on the planet, with their later b-sides and remixes. Kelli Datyon-Ali was also playing an increasing and welcome role in this new writing and mixing. The earlier Becoming X band and this later morphology are both no more. Mourn the break-up of the former Sneaker Pimps if you must, I know I did. However, I personally was not expecting this to be the same "feeling" of band here, and it isn't. It's a markedly different sound, though still heavily rooted in trip-hop and electronic alternative. There's none of the old trance rock vibe from version 1 Pimps either, and that's a shame only because they were the only ones doing it before. Chris Corner surprisingly has a great voice, and he definitely has that art rock "presence" about him. The new stuff is excellent in its own right, and should not be criticized simply for not being the old band. Hopefully Kelli will do some solo work that picks off where "Walk The Rain" and her other writing efforts left off. Maybe she should consider working with Nellee Hooper, of Six Underground, Bjork, and Massive Attack fame. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to work with her, and we'd be thrilled to buy any resulting albums. The Japanese release includes two tracks, Diving and Unattached, which should have been included in all the releases; they're REALLY good, especially former. If you don't buy this release, you'd have to buy the UK Low Five single to get them. Anyone know why Splinter hasn't been released stateside? Very odd..."

"For a long time, I had absolutely no idea that the Sneaker Pimps even had an album besides Becoming X. And I was never a very big Sneaker Pimps fan. I always thought that they were just okay..And then I happened upon Splinter. I didn't think that I'd like it very much, with the loss of female vocals, because I always thought that it was her voice that made me like them. But I was wrong. Splinter is an amazing album. Better than amazing. I was hooked from the very first song, the very first listen. And I discover more reasons to like it with every listen. If you're expecting another Becoming X, then you're expecting the total opposite of what you'll get with Splinter. It's as if it's from a completely different planet. Definately one of my new favorites. It's a shame that the Sneaker Pimps are so under-rated. But hey, that leaves more for me, right?"

"This cd is a big improvement from Becoming X. Well the last singer may have been good but Chris Corner is awsome too. I was shocked to hear this cd to sprinkled with religous messages through a few or couple(can't remember the number) of the songs. My favorites would have to be Halflife, Lowfive, Superbug, Destroying Angel, Empathy, Ten to Twenty and Curl. Well pretty much every song on the cd. While whatever her name was may have been a good singer, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world for her to leave the band by listening to this cd. I couldn't imagine this cd with the last singer. I am very impressed with the effects and instrument sound quality they had on this cd. The violin on this cd is real coo. The instruments they used sounds very diverse or heavily modified. If you like the first cd don't expect the exact same sound but they used some of the same approaches. This is an awsome and anyone who was really a fan of the first cd should buy this cd."
