CD ReviewsCriminally Underrated and Overlooked 08/10/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Recently, I took a position in Mexico (I used to live in Ohio) because I got let go from my former company right before Christmas and nobody else offered me a job. Anyway, it took almost six months to get my stereo and 2,000 cd's 'smuggled' down here. But now they're here - rapture. Pouring a cold Tecate with lime, I attempted to make a small ceremony of the first CD I elected to play. I sorted and sorted.....and then stumbled upon Bent With Pray. More rapture. It fits the ambience here so well. Quiet, then furious. Smoking hot, like heat waves shimmering off the broken black top on a 110 degree day. And then, like an ice cold Mexican beer, it relieves the relentless heat and tension with icy, crystal clear passages that cannot be compared to anything I have ever heard, before or since. It is dusty, and it is soaking wet. It is still as held breath, and as kinetic as summer gale. Indeed, Bent With Pray has an ambience all it's own. I'd like to compare it to other bands, but it's uniqueness is such that I really can't think of a derivative. I think I'm one of the 10 or so that owned this since its release in 1992 (I think it might have made Spin's top 10 overlooked that year, along with Freedy Johnston, the 3D's, Kyuss, and Flop....) If you can find this album, consider yourself not only lucky because you're there and I'm here, but lucky because, when the laser hits the disc, you'll hear music unlike anything you've heard before."
