CD ReviewsFury sets this record straight don fury | new york | 07/14/2004 (3 out of 5 stars) "ok don't get your panties in a bunch. i (don fury) recorded 6 songs for this record: No Bridge, Incarnation, Deceived, Covered, Anothers Life, and Fields of Illusion were the original titles. this recording was made and mixed on a weekend with a budget for an EP. i didn't do the other cuts for the record, and had no input at mastering. the original masters are fine. the band sounds more hardcore and raw on these tracks since it was very early in their development., and since we did them in 2 days. (the band survived 2 M80 attacks while they slept in their van that night, near the 4th of july) but - i can't vouch for the final product or the cuts i didn't do, or the fact that there's only 9 songs on the CD. if you're a snapcase aficionado, buy this record even though it's probably overpriced, but don't expect smooth sounding vocals or a slick production vibe. this was the beginning.(...)" Good, but not up to their later standard. don fury | 10/30/1999 (3 out of 5 stars) "Snapcase's debut full-length album, "Lookinglasself", is a decent beginning that suffers from two major flaws. First, Don Fury's production just out-and-out STINKS. I've heard much better recording, mixing and mastering from bands recording themselves with four-tracks in their garages and putting their own stuff out DIY. Either this guy was trying to record this album on the extreme cheap, or he's a complete incompetent who belongs behind a mixing board about as much as Jesse Helms belongs as president of the NAACP. Second, with the notable exceptions of "Drain Me/Filter" and perhaps "Incarnation" (which, however, I still feel is the most overrated song in the Snapcase canon), these songs are powerful the first time you hear them, but don't wear too well with repeated listens. I listened to this album almost daily when I first bought it after hearing them play at the Lost Horizon in Syracuse with Sick of it All in 1995. In the last 3 years, I may have listened to it all the way through a grand total of twice. No, come to think of it, once - when I was introducing my girlfriend to their music. Make of that what you will. That having been said, I like this album better than anything Earth Crisis has ever considered putting out (although I will admit, before all of the vegan militants begin trashing me, that "Destroy the Machines" has its moments musically -- one or two of them), and it's not bad for a bunch of kids who weren't even out of high school at the time. Also, some of these songs really kick live when they bother to play them. Even with all of its flaws (and, believe me, it has them), "Lookinglasself" is still better than 80-90% of the albums that Victory Records has put out in their history.Their 4-song followup, "Steps", was a significant improvement over this album, and their followup full-length, "Progression Through Unlearning", was only the single greatest set of hardcore songs ever burnt onto a compact disc. (See my review of that album elsewhere on this site for more info.) "Lookinglasself" is listenable, and should be obtained by fans of this band and/or genre, but it's of more interest as an historical document than as a musical one." To the guy that slammed Don Fury mikelandes | 02/09/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Don Fury stinks? Clearly you have no idea who he is or what you're talking about. That's why he has produced all these titles:A DAY FOR HONEY
