Never heard of him---what a surprise

"Energetic-deep driving blues with great tone, great vocals, pure country blues. Robert Brown is comical, "Hottest Brand Goin'" is a hoot and rings with cheer at hard work "super service" and comfort in a job (he was a mechanic at a Conoco gas station) and pleasure at having a good boss while going into "Something Wrong With My Machine" and carbeurator troubles, a woman, and a bottle of whiskey. Priceless and hypnotic---one great attitude blues man who makes this album purr like a freshly tuned automobile. Discovered in 1960 he is possitively the "Hottest Brand Goin'". Like R.L. Burnside?---here is the one you missed! Evidently a character who vanished and is presumed deceased in 1975 at age 48---a stellar record. Check out his other album for his great song "Rabbit Blues" which is on this album in part instrumentally...you'll not be sorry!

"Smokey was one helluva guitar player. This cd usually sells for about $5.00 and it is a steal. Smokey and his harmonica player are out of sight and a joy to listen to, especially "Coon Hunt". I have found only 2 cds of his music in the marketplace and I own them both. I put him right there with Fred McDowell and the acoustic recordings of R.L. Burnside. Both cds were recorded in 1960 with the other one on Arhoolie records. Buy it, you will not be disappointed!"
