"Slick Rick. A British imigrant who moved to the US at the age of 11 and picked up rapping while in school. Became well known for his classic collaborations with Doug E. Fresh, La Di Da Di and The Show. Was signed to Def Jam and began working on this very album which was released in 1988. This release is a very signiticant one. Slick Rick cemented his legacy as one of the most charismatic MCs ever to grace a microphone. His skills are great by any standard from any time. His great flow is complimented by his British accent, a suave persona, and his quirky, crude, and very entertaining sense of humor. Slick Rick is also known as the father of story-telling Hip Hop, which is exemplified on tracks such as Children's Story, Mona Lisa, and the The Moment I Feared. Listening to these tracks is more like watching a bunch of short movies starring your loveable hero Slick Rick, than just listeing to some rap songs. No doubt, Ricky D. was very ahead of his time and his influence can still be felt in many of today's more skilled MCs. Giving this album anything less than 5 stars, in my honest opinion, is a farce."
