CD Reviews

Skyclad live; jolly good!

"Skyclad! The originators of folk metal, after a ten year career period filled with brilliant studio albums, finally came forth with their first live effort in 2001; and what a live this is! Recorded at the 1995 Dynamo festival in Holland, Another Fine Mess includes 8 live tracks, the setlist concentrated mostly around the Silent Whales Of Lunar Sea album of the same year. The band's in top form, a really flawless performance, full of energy and passion, in true Skyclad spirit! In addition to that, we also get 4 extra tracks which are basically acoustic reworkings of tunes that appeared in their earlier studio albums. The result is surprisingly good and older fans will be amazed; the new versions of these songs (especially Sins Of Emission and Land Of The Rising Slum from the Prince of the Poverty Line album) sound completely different and yet absolutely delightful. An admirable job from the band. All in all, Another Fine Mess is packed with some really great stuff, a reminder of how awesome the band sounded before the departure of main songwriter and frontman extraordinaire Martin Walkyier and is surely a must-have item for every Skyclad fan. Highly recommended."

"Skyclad live. Good stuff. A good introduction to the early years, along with an acoustic track collection."
