"It seems that this album has all known tracks James recorded in 1930s. Thus this CD is his pre-sixties "complete recordings" set. Similar CD (with different track order) has been released before (by at least two different publishers) but they are out of market now, so we should be glad that this Snapper label has put this material out now.
Even though some of the tracks have very much noise, for me this material has always been the deepest blues ever recorded. James's songwriting is original and songs have more variation than Robert Johnson's blues pieces. Essential for any blues fan."
Don't waste your money on this cd

"The recorded sound is terrible, even worse than it needs to be for songs recorded in the early 30s. There are much better cds of those early Skip James recordings, notably "Complete Early Recordings" (Yazoo 2009). Two thumbs down for this one."
