Back to the days of 'Sparkle in the Rain'

"One word for this album--AWESOME--. Very strong and upbeat. This album displays burchills best guitar work. Each track fits neatly into one another. Best songs are 'stay visible', 'stranger', and 'home'. They need to bring back Michael MacNeil on keyboards and then this would have been a stellar album for sure. Still not as good as 'New Gold Dream' though, it can't be topped....."
Simple Minds Reclaims Itself

"History and timing has not been kind to Simple Minds. From their early, semi-progessive, electic- electronic formation they developed into a band capable of epic sweep and vision. However, after the undeserved commercial failure of "Real Life", times changed and Simple Mind's thoughts seemed to become cluttered, their music uninteresting. Since "Black and White 050505" is only available as an import, it took me awhile to finally catch up with it. Thankfully, it was worth the wait. the band has apparently regained contact with the exciting, inspiring aspects of their sound. From "Stay Visible" through "Dolphins", the instrumental power is there, compensating for the slight weakening in Jim Kerr's singing (in some aspects, time cannot be denied). Two things prevent me from giving this a 5 star review. First, the title song. It is the weakest cut on the album; in my opinion, the opening "Stay Visible" would have made a much better title for the entire CD. Finally, the running time is a bit on the short side. After I finished listening, I was wanting more. Hopefully, this is a sign of even better things to come!"
