Synopsis

Product Description
Only a few bands have succeeded in breaking out of the small, clearly defined Swiss music scene, which in general and with only a few exceptions, just plods along with little innovation. So bands like SILENT MEMORIAL and their prog oriented Heavy Metal make people sit up and take notice. "Retrospective" can easily be compared with the great classics of this music genre and the superb, varied songs, all of which reach the highest standards of this genre knock the listener's socks off without being too demanding. To do that is an art which is difficult to attain, but SILENT MEMORIAL has done it.

Excellent Prog Metal

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Silent Memorial is based out of Bern, Switzerland. They originally formed in the mid-90's as Squadron-41. Eventually after some personnel movement they changed their name and released their first album "Cosmic Handball" in Asia in 1998. The new millenium brought more lineup changes but they continued writing music. The current bandmembers are Mike Andersson, vocals(Cloudscape); Chris Haenggi, keyboards; Christoph Baertschi, guitars; Sugar Burns, bass; Diego Rapacchietti, drums.

The band lists their musical influences as Dream Theater, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree and Deep Purple. The songs are heavy on guitar but have have a nice flow of vocals and keyboards mixed in throughout. Of special note is the 22 1/2 minute epic title track. The 6 other songs run about 5 minutes each.

For a world wide debut album this is an excellent start. Buy and enjoy! I look forward to future releases from this band."
