CD ReviewsGoth punk's not screamo Christopher Robert Cole | Fowler, CA, USA, North America, Earth, Solar Syste | 10/10/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Caught a hold of these guys at the Warped Tour at their band booth, listened to their music, and loved it. From someone who is into the death/goth/horror punk, hardcore, and metal scenes, I just get this chuckle a lot when people try to call this stuff "screamo" as to associate it with the emotionally weak excuse of modern punk of emo with screams. This band is better assocatiable with the "goth-punks". Anyone remember AFI? THE "goth-punks" from California's East Bay Hardcore scene? I like to associate The Silence better with this. As it can be more damaging enough that trendy teens keep calling My Chemical Romance their favorite emo band, when MCR associates better with the melodic goth- and horror- punk bands. Even Gerard Way says his influences are Glenn Danzig (Misfits, Samhain, Danzig), Rozz Williams (Christian Death, Shadow Project), and Nick Cave (Birthday Party, Bad Seeds)! But back to The Silence-- excellent post-hardcore music created with lots of art laden into this mix of sound, giving it room to breath in its immortality amongst the coffins and cobwebs."
