"This is the second of the excellent Eloquence releases featuring Anthony Collins's famous Sibelius / Decca recordings. This set, containing Symphonies 5-7 and miscellaneous overtures, is further evidence of Collins's skill as a Sibelius interpreter. The performances are vital, idiomatic and taut. The mono sound, given that the vintage of the recordings dates between 1954-56, is clear and wide ranging. This is particularly so with the symphonies; the overtures have a more boxy acoustic.



The 2 generously filled discs come at a bargain price. Previously, despite their age, Collin's Sibelius was only available at full price. Although I own both volumes, if pressed to chose only one set, I would purchase the one containing the first 4 symphonies."
