"What could DS do after 8, but turn in the opposite direction and do something like and whimsical? This is perfect music for Jarvi, whose renditions of Prokofiev's whimsy laced with melancholy are great. The extras on this disc, including the arrangement of Tea for One, are an essential part of the picture that is painted: not the typical Shostakovich one. This is seriously my second favorite of his symphonies behind 8."
