"What an amazing document of the German premiere of this scorching symphony. Kondrashin premiered the 4th in russia (Soviet Union, then) in 1962. This recording is from 1963. While this recording does not have the clarity and impact of Jarvi's Chandos recording, this is truly unique.
The German players are fantastic. The fugue is awe inspiring. The brass are overwhelming in the final choral of the third movement.
While this is nowhere near perfect, it is a great recording. Worth it for the performance and interpretation.
Get it if you can."
