"Shorty and his big band pay tribute to "The Count" with nine Basie tunes and three of Shorty's. Even the Roger originals have the Basie patterns of piano chords, walking bass, crisp sax and brass riffs, and explosive dynamics. The band personnel reads like "Who's who of Big Band Jazz", and the clarinet solos of Jimmy Giuffre are worth the price of the CD alone. If you like Basie or Shorty, here is a treat you don't want to miss."
