Synopsis
Album Description Debut album from this Swedish suicidal black metal band. Depressive, yet the band can keep the primitive black metal element very well...comparing with the later album (III Angst), the music is more straight forward (in my opinion especially the drum) but more evil. CD ReviewsPURE DEPRESSION Internal Abbatoir | Albuquerque, NM | 01/26/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Shining is pure depression caught on tape. If you are already a depressed person, then listening to this may be similar to throwing salt onto an open wound. Hopefully, this release will drive many worthless people who are not deserving of life to an immediate end." Excellent depressing grim black metal Smithy1185 | San Diego, CA USA | 02/17/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I wish I had heard of Shining earlier, because this is a great cd. The production is good yet it still maintains a raw and bleak atmosphere. Also, I have the recent digipack re-release with an extra bonus track but that edition is not on Amazon. Considering this is their debut album, its really amazing. One thing I love about the cd and wish that more black metal bands did, is to slow things down a bit. I always loved the slower songs on other BM cds and this cd has lots of that. But if you prefer your black metal the more traditional faster way, then there is some of that as well on here. The only flaw is that there are only 6 songs on here(7 if you include the bonus track), but most of the songs are around 8 minutes so its understandable. The melodies are dark and grim creating a sense of despair and the vocals sound tortured. Anyways, if you have not heard anything by Shining or have yet to pick up this cd, go ahead and buy it because you're in for a treat."
