Synopsis

Album Description
This most recent TownHall CD is a compilation of songs that arise when confronting political, social, racial, economic, or spiritual "railroad tracks" or boundaries. The twelve tracks include songs by each of the Mayorgas, Duke Ellington, Ewan MacColl, Dorsey Dixon and traditional songs in original arrangements. Sheri Bauer-Mayorga's unique and expressive voice establishes her as a skillful and innovative interpretor capable of handling this unusual mix of musical genres. This collaboration with husband, Lincoln Mayorga, as pianist and producer, has turned out an original and beautifully transparent sounding recording. Instrumentation includes vocals, guitar, and accordion by Sheri Bauer-Mayorga, Lincoln Mayorga on piano, Pete Toigo on bass, Jeff Kraus on percussion and Trevor Caldwell on Low D whistle. The town of Chatham, New York makes a guest appearance on one tune with its local marching bands, the 2002 Chatham Fair, the local espresso bar, and the mayor's barking beagle.

CD Reviews

A CD With a Depth of Color and Vision
12/28/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

""On the Wrong Side of the Railroad Tracks" is a powerful testament to the importance of a comprehensive musical vision with colorful discussion from many angles and perspectives for the purpose of a truly pleasurable and stimulating presentation to the listener. This CD smacks of intense talent and intelligence, with a deeply embedded purpose that weaves this gorgeous tapestry entitled "Wrong Side of the Railroad Tracks."

Sheri's exquisitely pure and expressive voice tells tales that everyone should know and of course, can relate to. The heart is that of Duke Ellington as the title is dedicated. But, just as important are the stories of the "Weave Room", "Isaias", "The Jolly Thrasher", "The Truth of Love", "The Big Payoff", "One Song" and "Sixties TV." Sheri makes being on the "wrong side" a joy through the tears and the laughter. She makes it terribly clear and close with a voice that enables the listener to experience that exile on many levels.

An outstanding musical experience. A must have to listen to again and again."
