"You Don't Have To Be Jewish To Enjoy This CD"

"I enjoyed this album back in 1962 when it was called "My Son The
Jewish Drummer" and I am now having more fun with it remastered
in 2004 by Fantasy Records. I never realized that it had been
released until I checked out the "Shelly Manne and his Friends"
CD's on Amazon.com.
I was checking to see if the 5 vol "Black Hawk" series had been finally brought out by Fantasy Records as a box set, alas, it
hasn't, but finding this CD was compensation indeed.
Maybe it's because I'm older but the songs "push all my emotion
buttons" and then some. Mrs Manne must have been very proud of
her son the drummer when she listened to this rare treat indeed.
Shorty Rogers could have made a living as a Klezmatic player
any day of the week. Teddy Edwards is no slouch either. So much
for the front line. To have Victor Feldman on vibes as well as
piano is to make one "kvell" with pride. Al Viola and Monty
Budwig make their presence heard very nicely. Shelly, well what
hasn't been said about this "mensch" of a drummer. The important
thing is he gave his mother much "naches" - joy and happiness."

"Very unusual and entertaining jazz treatment of Jewish music. Can be enjoyed by anyone. Bought for a Jewish friend; will buy another for myself."
