CD Reviews

Texas Front-woman.
Pocha Dot | Los Angeles | 09/18/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard of Sharleen Spiteri when I purchased a song called "In Our Lifetime" while she was still a part of the scottish band "Texas". I loved that song, After searching for a solo artist since 1999 I found out in 2009 (10 years later) the song was again performed by a female-fronted-band called "Texas" and the lead singer is Sharleen Spiteri. I sampled the bands entire catalog finding nothing else that sounded anything like "In Our Lifetime".

I soon found "Melody" the solo project from the lead band member "Shareleen, of course". I figured I'd just take a risk and purchase the album, Since most artists that decide to go solo tend to do things that are nothing like what they were doing with the band. "Melody" is inspired by 50's & 60's rythyms, "I'm into that". The vocals on this album are mediocre, I like the style and sound of the music on the album, However I'm not blown away by it. "I'm Going To Haunt You" is the song that blew me away, It's actually a cover. I saw her perform this song Live, She even crossfaded "These Boots Were Made For Walking" Into the end of the song while performing. I love the melody and spooky, haunting sound of it.

many times throughout your listening... Sharleen sounds identical to the great Lisa Stansfield, Which is a good thing. While i'm not blown away by this release at all I can still see myself listening to this album and possibly getting attatched after some growing with it."
