Synopsis

Album Description
Metal Blade Records presents in 2008 the album Misanthropy Pure by Shai Hulud. Matt Mazzali is the new singer of Shai Hulud, having been introduced to the band by a mutual friend. Misanthropy Pure is the long-awaited follow up to 2003's That Within Blood Ill Tempered. The core remains Fox and Fletcher, who have a real passion for music. 'We're the guys, who when we go on tour, are looking for the used record store. We love to play it, find it, and experiment with it. We're not business minded. We take longer to write and release records since we want to bring emotion to it. We're passionate about living music,' says Fox. 'Music is like pizza and sex. It never gets old, and it's something we will always love. Playing songs from A Profound Hatred will never get old.'

CD Reviews

Oh how we've been patient, and oh how we've been rewarded!

"I really dont have much to add. If you are a fan of this band, as I always have been, buy this album without hesitation. If you have heard of them, but never got into them, I am both sad for you, and happy that you might start here, and if you pass up this amazing album, I have no idea what to say.

The songs flow as if over 5 years havent passed. This is a band unscathed by the fiasco that has been "metalcore for the last 1/2 decade.

The title song is bone chilling, lyrically. and brings back visions of me in a pit at a show ages ago, Im now a 26 year old banker. (yeah, sad)

Bear the Brunt... is easily my favorite track. funny coming from a man who's main love in music is speed. It is a heavy song. but not fast. but still, the guitar play in it is amazing.

This album starts out by punching you in the chest, knocking the wing out of you, and doesnt let up all through 11 tracks till you have succumbed to the fury (and philosophy) that is the mighty Shai Hulud.

No, This was never my favorite band, My favorites include Iron Maiden, Darkest Hour, and At the Gates. But somewhere among those Gods of Metal. This, the forefather of metalcore, has found a place.

Buy this album."

"It's been years since Shai Hulud has released their last album. Geert is no longer the lead singer. They have some new guy named Matt now. At first, i thought no one would be able to be as good as Geert was. Now that i have heard this album numerous times, i must say Matt fits in just fine. His screaming style is a little more like Chad.

Misanthropy Pure is definately a heavy album. Matt Fox will never disapoint when it comes to writing great songs with great lyrics. The opening track "venomspreader" reminds me of a Zombie Apocalypse song. The re-recorded "set your body ablaze" which sounds a little different from the original. Overall an excellent album. My favorite tracks are venomspreader, the creation ruin, to bear the brunt of many blades, and cold lord quietus.

These guys are one of the only true metalcore bands left."
