Synopsis

Album Description
Seth Glier is a 20 year-old singer/songwriter/pianist from Massachusetts swiftly making a name for himself on the national scene. His debut album for MPress, The Trouble With People, is both timeless and modern and has drawn comparisons to Billy Joel, Marc Cohn, Gavin DeGraw, Elton John and Paul McCartney. A sophisticated collection that shows surprising maturity and self-reflection, the album weaves understated tales of real people in quiet pain. Produced by Seth Glier & Ryan Hommel; Mixed by Kevin Killen, John Shyloski & Alan Evans.

CD Reviews

Simply amazing!

"I unknowingly had the pleasure of hearing Seth for the first time Nov 3rd, lucky for me, the day this album was released. When he came out to open for another artist no one really paid attention, until he began to play, and within 20 seconds the room was silent, and remained that way until his set ended and the place erupted with applause. What a performance! I was instantly a fan and I obviously wasn't the only one as we had to wait in quite a line to pick up this CD! Check out his website for tour dates its worth the drive!"
Can he be just 20 years old? Was Randy Newman this good at 2

"I got Boston-based and Berklee-trained (until he dropped out to PLAY his songs) singer songwriter Glier's CD just shortly before heading off to this year's Folk Alliance. Based on the CD - which I loved - I wanted to see him in person. Wouldn't you know that the first elevator I took upon arriving had one passenger and it the personable Glier! Later on, prior to heading to his showcase I was chatting with the amazing singer/songwriter John Gorka and said I had to leave to see Glier. Gorka said he was anxious to see him play too and we headed off to the performance. I could see Glier's eyes widen as Gorka slipped into the small room. Speaking with Glier later I learned that Gorka was one of the reasons that he started writing songs! And what songs he writes. The best are here on this CD.

Influenced by his family - he lives with an aged grandmother, a father who is problematic and a younger autistic brother who he takes care of when not on the road - he writes to share his thoughts and emotions. With a voice in a sweet high range, and often just accompanying himself on the piano, he sounds a lot like a young Randy Newman. And he writes images like Newman as well. "Gotta Get Away" is a track that holds up to repeated playing and the final track - "I Just Want To Make My Daddy Proud" will make you stop and wonder his age. Yes, this is not about his father but about former President George W. Bush's relationship with his father! Goodness, Glier was still in high school during most of "W"'s term in office.

Even the book of liner lyrics enclosed goes way beyond Glier's physical age. There are photos of radios and even Edison Cylinder Records. And, the CD label has the design of an old 45. This from a young man who grew up in the MP3 generation!

Give Glier a listen and when he REALLY gets noticed you can say - like me - you discovered him early in his career.
