"These are among the best Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto performances. Lylia Zilberstein is a very disciplined and fast player. Claudio Abbado does a great job with the Berlin philarmonique. I have heard different pianists playing Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos, but Lylia in this recording is absolutely awesome. In the Third Piano Concerto, she opted to play the "quicksilver" version for the cadenza in the first movement, rather than the heavily chordial and full-blooded one (although the latter sounds fantastic played by other pianists as well). She plays it very fast without missing any notes! Sometimes it seems that the philarmonique needs to catch Lylia's speed, though her fast performance does not compromise the beautiful and sweet rhythmic Piano Concertos' passages at all.The recording sound is remarkably neat and the piano sound is really sharp!This is really a worhwhile CD purchase."
