Daniel Murphy | Melbourne, Victoria, Australia | 08/17/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In the days where you hear Tiësto. Armin Van Buuren, and Paul Van Dyk reign supreme over the music culture of today, it's always refreshing to hear a shining new talent move to the forefront and drop an album that is destined to take the world by storm.

Serge Devant is no stranger to music and has now released his debut album Wanderer internationally and it's hot. He has collaborated with some huge names in the music industry on his shining release including Nadia Ali (off iiO fame), Hadley, Jaren and Second Sun.

Sweeping through the clubs last year was the anthemic Sweet Harmony. The giddy heights of the music along with bedroom voice that ripples through the song, it was an instant hit and gripped the attention of the dance community. It is no surprise to be the opening track of the album.

The second track Take Me With You featuring the stunning vocals of Emma Hewitt. The melodic sounds of her voice splashed across the waves of musical contentment that soothe the senses are sheer delight. The song is put your hands above your head and dance to the music.

As with his peers Tiësto and Van Buuren, his album wouldn't be complete without an instrumental track. Stuck in the 80's is the only track without vocals to feature on the album. The track is dynamic enough in it's own right that adding any voice to it would just destroy the simplicity and enjoyment of the track.

Seeing the collaboration with Nadia Ali with 12 Wives in Tehran sent a wave of anticipation rushing through my body. I was a little disappointed when her singing isn't words but ooh's and aah's over a gratifyingly seductive beat and musical riff. The song is still absolutely a highlight of the album and worth being grabbed and listened to repeatedly.

The next track that must have attention drawn to it is Addicted, his latest single, featuring the blessedly talented Hadley. Trying to describe her voice is near impossible and then when blended with the music in the background, well, some of the lyrics best describe it as she breathes "I'm addicted to love." It's always refreshing to find a dance music artist who doesn't hide behind computer generated beeps and whistles. Devant on his track Shadow which features Second Sun, there are guitars and drums going as well and again, is one of the most stand out tracks on the album.

Surround U is another prized piece of the album. With the guest vocals of Kyven providing the last remaining piece of the puzzle that completes the track, it's easy to hear the effort that Devant has put into the piece and there is no doubt in mind that the remixes are going to be stunning.

It would be remiss of any review not to comment on the title track Wanderer. It's captivating, it's thrilling, it's breath taking, it's going to have you on the dancefloor without looking back. Having utilized the talents of Hadley again on the track, devant has hit the nail on the head and you just know that clubs everywhere are going to eat the track up.

Rounding out the album is the track Peace which has the soaring sounds of a destined club anthem akin to Big Skies by John O'Callaghan. Featuring Hadley's voice like chocolate melted over honey. The song is, as the title would suggest, about peace. Not just that, peace on Earth for us all.

Tiesto has been heard to call Serge Devant one of dance music's brightest sparks. The album Wanderer isn't one that you just listen to one track here or one track there, you can't help but play the album in it's entirety to get the full effect of this man's absolutely dynamic talent which has been condensed into a mere thirteen tracks. This man is going to be huge, grab the album now while you can."
