Synopsis
Amazon.com "Keepin' it real" might be the most horrendously overused phrase in hip-hop, but All Natural are one duo who could hold their heads high should they ever choose to use it. Born and raised in middle-class Chicago, college-educated, and happily confined to small labels, rapper Capital D and DJ Tone B. Nimble never pretend to be anything other than socially aware hip-hop fans from the right side of the tracks. In fact, the only guns 'n hos clichés to make it on their second album are in Capital D's mocking snipes against big-bucks rappers who favor them ("Mr. Sexy," "Elements of Style"), and gold-digging ladies who only give big-bucks rappers the time of day ("Queens Get the Money"). For the most part, though, Capital D puts his extensive vocabulary to the more pressing issues of Chicago and America's social decline ("Ill Advisory," "Chatham," "Uncle Sam"), firing off some spectacularly articulate assaults in the process. Sometimes he over-intellectualizes, rendering rhymes fast, complex, and impossible for even the highest of IQs to unravel. But even when the lyrical flow seems impenetrable, Nimble's sublime selection of down-tempo cinematic backdrops--some sinister, some smooth, some jazz--remain stirring enough to keep the ears and mind totally hooked. --Dan Gennoe Similar CDs

CD ReviewsOn Point MCs!!!! Xb Nkosi | Johannesburg, South Africa | 03/26/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "I just love this crew!!!! They know and feel what they are doin'. Capital D is as sick as they come.... The rest of the crew complement him with their realness and passion shown in the whole album. If you are Hip-Hop....you know what to do." The BEST Underground Release for 2001 7th Angl | Ontario, Canada | 01/26/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "After years of bubbling in Chi-town's underground, All Natural rises to the surface with this triumphant release. "Second Nature" boasts some very dope skills from members Capital D and DJ Tone B Nimble. Production never falters, as the Molemen and J. Rawls take the helm on tracks not overlooked by DJ Tone B. Many social issues are addressed by Capital D, whose panache for intellectualism keeps a listener's attention firmly in his grasp. Philosophical tracks like "Appreciate Life" and my personal pick "Renaissance" focus on why its important to strive in times of anymosity and musical decadence. Other joints, like "Mr. Sexy" and "Queen's get the money" are well crafted attacks on gold diggers, that do not resort to generic, petty name-calling that is so abundant in mainstream hip-hop these days. "Second Nature" is a very well-rounded effort from these stalwarts, and should find a place in every true head's collection, as the most memorable album of 2001." ILL ADVISORY GOING DOWN joehiphophead | Kansas city | 10/01/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Its amazing when you look at the scale of overated rappers and DJs today such as young jeezy and Missy no talent. These are rappers who make millions off of stressing quantity over actual quality on tracks and albums and while wack MCs continue to push there weak style and ryhmes on the undereducated masses it seems as though capitol D and and his Dj are a truly talented crew who have slipped under the radar of even most underground heads this is probably due to lack of promotion or any backing by a real record label. I believe that through the history of Hiphop there are several albums that should be considered essential listening such as KRS-ONE Return Of The Boom Bap and MF DOOM Operation Doomsday. This album is not only an essential listen it is also one of the greatest Hiphop albums of all time in my humble opinion of course. capitol D proves him self to be a wonderful lyricist on this joint and he could probaly take out 99% of these cats on the radio talkin about they rims, hoes, guns and all of that other pointless nonsense. if you do not buy this CD or at least give it a listen you are seriously missing out. GET IT NOW"
