Born in quaint Pacific Grove, CA, the surrounding areas of the Pacific Coast Highway are where Smith found his first influence to create musical landscapes that leave the average listener speechless. He chooses to let his acoustic guitar do the talking - and speak it does, in a complex manner and with psychedelic leanings not unlike the great, eccentric John Fahey. Since the 2005 release of his debut self-titled disc, Smith has played frequently to growing audiences in the San Francisco area, sharing stages with Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Six Organs of Admittance, Harris Newman, Penelope Houston, Jack Rose, Marissa Nadler, Bart Davenport, and Matt Valentine in addition to touring with famed Cul De Sac guitarist Glenn Jones.
