Jazz guitarist Scott Sherwood's impressive debut album "Siren Song" is a mutable, beautifully evocative work that lures listeners inside the music with lush tones and poetic compositions. The unique quality of the disc is accented by the rich vocal sound of the guitar, watercolor cymbal work and acoustic bass occasionally filled out with haunting vocalizations by bassist Harold Miller. The disc features six compositions by Scott Sherwood that fulfill the promise of the title. Sherwood opens with his jazz waltz "Shadow Play" a melodically tuneful piece with an underlying jazz swing and proceeds to draw the listener through a beguiling assortment of intricate tunes and engaging improvisations. At track 5 the band jumps ship and launches into "Alliteration" an unrestrained and delightful free form that momentarily clears the air before ultimately submerging the listener in the chillingly intense and haunting title track "Siren Song." This CD casts a seductive spell on the listener, drawing them back to it again and again.
