CD ReviewsNew Ground A. A. Cruz | Centreville, VA USA | 06/14/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "New Fire is a most apropos title. Scott August created a work that breaks new ground for him in my opinion. The various cuts have a common melody but they are separate and distinct treatments. Not only does he vary the flutes used but also the backup instruments. There is a southwestern (spanish) undercurrent that commingles w/ the native american rhythms givings the songs a stickiness that has you humming the songs and swaying w/ the music throughout the day. Scott does a masterful job of creating haunting sounds and soulful songs. Temple of the Sun, Heart of the Sky, Mockingbird Canyon and Ancient Memories are my favorite cuts. This is one cd that I have not gotten tired of listening. Highly recommended." Never heard of him.............boy, now I have! Keith J. Stanford | Arizona | 03/04/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Last year at the Flute Odyssey held in Phoenix, I was tending a booth where I was selling my book on making the Native American Flute. There were many nationally known Recording Artist performing and I was able to video tape most of them during the performances. I was walking back to my booth when I heard this very unique Flute playing on stage. I grabbed my camera, and went to the front row where I was able to film the last few minutes of Scott August's first song of his performance. I was completely mesmerized. He played a few more songs and I was only able to film parts of them as I was too engrossed with this man's music. I had never heard of Scott August. No doubt, I HAVE NOW! His music is spectacular. He has the ability to play the soft traditional Native American style songs and can also push-the-envelope with some of his `peppier' type songs. At the Odyssey, I bought his New Fire CD. Simply brilliant! I now own all 3 of his CD's and eagerly wait for his 4th one to arrive (possibly next year?). Listen to his music. You will not be disappointed. " Music that transforms you Barbara Sweeney | Altadena, CA | 06/02/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Scott August's "New Fire" has the same haunting lyricism as his previous CDs, but with vivid new rhythms and bright charm. Scott's experience creating world music really makes it's voice heard -- the "Mockingbird Canyon" track sounds almost Asian. This music is expansive and transformative-- it makes you want to open up all your doors and windows. "New Fire" is a fluid, seamless joining of music to the natural world."
