"This CD, at this price, is really worth to buy. Antoni Wit, best Polish conductor, and his Polish National Radio Symphony, performed marvellous, very clear and romantic. And as you know, Schumann's orchestration is weak, too light and not powerful. But they claimed this weak reason with their full and beautiful sound. And sensitive reading, too.
Symphony No. 1 called "Frühling" was written in a very short period (1 - 2 months), inspired of his youthful energy and happines because of in love with Clara. Especially the first and final movement are very energic, happy, vivace.
Symphony No. 3 called "Rheinisch" was written there, which Schumann was very love this place. As you know, at 1854, he was try to suicide there, in the river of Rhen! This is the most majestic symphony of the composer, paints typic German pastoral landscapes. It is an example of typic German Romanticism. Especially in 4th mov. "Feierlich", there is a noble ceremony music, which tells about a ceremony in Rhenish Cathedral.
This recording is a good choice to start to listen Schumann symphonies. Highly recommended."
