Great "mystery" Schubert

"Scholz was a conductor and teacher who, in the 1970s, recorded and produced a lot of the mainstream repertoire for the bargain market. We can't be entirely certain who conducted these performances (provenance being something of a legal hinderance in this area!), but there's no doubt that these are fine performances. If you like your Schubert warm and genial, but without the heaviness often inflicted on his symphonies (particularly in attempting to make the "Tragic" live up to its nickname), you'll be very happy with these performances, which are also very nicely played and recorded."
