And you thought Indianapolis was only known for the Indy 500

"The fact is that Indianapolis also has one of one of the more unheralded orchestras in the United States. Proof of that is in this recording of relatively unknown works by Franz Schubert--the second of Schubert's two Italian overtures, the Third Symphony, and the orchestrated Grand Duo.The orchestra gives extremely effective performances of each work under the guiding hand of the much-underrated British conductor Raymond Leppard (founder of the English Chamber Orchestra), particularly of the Third Symphony--which, to my knowledge, had either never been recorded by any American orchestra before the ISO's 1990 recording or had seen previous recordings fall into obscurity. It is well worth listening to, even with the plethora of recordings made by more Schubertian orchestras in Berlin, Vienna, and Dresden."
