CD Reviews

Sarah McLachlan's sixth filler album

"(I wrote this review before, but it seems to have vanished).

I am one of Sarah McLachlan's biggest non-psycho fans, and I buy everything she puts out. I own 90+ Sarah McLachlan CDs. However, I don't *love* everything she puts out, case in point her "Live Acoustic" EP.

These songs were from the press launch of iTunes for Windows just around the time "Afterglow" was released. No one knew any of the new material yet, so that could be the reason for re-hashing three of the insanely overplayed hits from 1997's "Surfacing"; Adia, Building a Mystery, and the ever-popular Angel. There are only two of her new songs, Fallen and the Angel-esque ballad Answer.

Sarah's beautiful voice usually makes up for the fact that she plays the same songs over and over again, here it doesn't. You can hear the 6-year absence in her voice. It's downright rusty in parts. This EP is a polar opposite to the over-produced and too-glossy perfection of the live tracks from "Mirrorball".

I would only reccommend this CD to Sarah fans like myself who want to hear everything; good, bad, and mediocre. This EP definitely falls in the mediocre category. It may be worth it to Canadian fans who can pick this CD up very cheaply at a local music store, but don't pony up the import price unless you REALLY LOVE Sarah McLachlan.

Sarah's best live CD to date!!!

"I'm really glad I bought this CD. Every song is superb...

Fallen is wonderful, her voice resonates with emotion and the music is an enchanting accompaniment. Adia is one of her stronger versions. Even without the usual background vocals, she pulls off the song with her voice and piano accompaniment. Angel is by far my favorite version. The words just seem to touch your heart and her vocals are amazing. Building a Mystery is very strong. Again, her voice and the emotions she evokes touch your heart.

Answer, my absolute favorite on the CD, is AMAZING. I think it is better then the original CD version. I play it over and over again in the car, etc. The lyrics are superb and her performance is on point! "Cast me gently into morning, for the night has been unkind. Take me to a place so holy, that I can wash this from my mind." - I love, love, love this song!

I'm sure you will love this CD if you enjoyed Mirrorball. My only complaint is that it is way too short.

"When the stars have all burned out, you'll still be burning so bright." - Answer

Send us some more Sarah!
